Current Student Internships

  1. Find a student you want to hire and present a written offer letter.*
  2. Set an employment start date, allowing approximately 3 weeks for the student to complete the required paperwork for their university.
  3. Student will provide their social security card, employment authorization, passport and I-94.

*Allows international students employment in fields directly related to their program of study.

Post-Graduation Employment 

  1. Find a student nearing completion of their program or recently graduated you want to hire.**
  2. Set an employment date, typically 60 – 90 days, allowing student time to secure work authorization through their International Student Services Office and US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
  3. Student will provide their social security card and Employment Authorization Card.

**Allows international students employment, post-graduation, for 12 months. STEM students may be eligible for an additional 24 months (3 year total).

WHAT IF I WANT MY EMPLOYEE TO STAY BEYOND 12 MONTHS AND THE POSSIBLE 24 MONTH EXTENSION?

Long-Term Employment and Related Fees***

  1. Determine “prevailing wage.” National Prevailing Wage Center is able to provide this data.
  2. File Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor
  3. File Form I-129, a certified Labor Condition Application and beneficiary’s supporting documentation with USCIS

**Fees are only required for long-term employment

Base Filing Fee $460

Anti-Fraud Fee $500

Training Fee $750 (if fewer than 25 employees) $1500 (if 25 employees or greater)***

***Many employers, including many non-profit and educational institutions are exempt from paying the training fee
